Midface Lift

What Is a Midface Lift?

A Midface Lift is a surgical facial rejuvenation procedure designed to correct sagging, volume loss, and deepening of the nasolabial folds in the cheek region.

With aging, the soft tissues over the cheekbones descend. This leads to flattening of the cheeks, deep nasolabial folds, and a tired facial expression.

Midface lift surgery repositions the descended cheek tissues to their anatomically ideal position, restores facial contour, and creates a more youthful, refreshed, and balanced appearance. The surgical plan is customized according to the patient’s facial structure.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

This procedure may be suitable for patients who have:

  • Sagging in the cheek area

  • Loss of cheek projection

  • Prominent nasolabial folds

  • Hollowing between the lower eyelid and cheek

  • Good general health and realistic expectations

Final candidacy is determined after comprehensive clinical evaluation.

How Is Midface Lift Surgery Performed?

Before surgery, facial anatomy, skin elasticity, and degree of tissue descent are carefully evaluated.

The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia, although local anesthesia with sedation may be used in selected cases.

Depending on the surgical plan, incisions may be placed inside the lower eyelid (transconjunctival approach) or within the hair-bearing scalp. The midfacial tissues are carefully released, elevated, repositioned, and secured. Excess skin may be adjusted when necessary.

The average operative time ranges between 1.5 and 2 hours.

Postoperative Recovery

Patients are usually discharged the same day or after overnight observation.

During the early recovery period, patients may experience:

  • Swelling

  • Bruising

  • Tightness

  • Temporary sensory changes

These effects generally improve significantly within 1–2 weeks.

Most patients return to social and professional activities within 7–14 days. Final results continue to refine over several weeks to months.

Will There Be Scarring?
Incisions are typically hidden inside the lower eyelid or within the hairline, making scars minimal or not externally visible.
Longevity of Results
Midface lift surgery provides long-lasting rejuvenation. Although the natural aging process continues, the improved cheek position and facial contour are maintained for many years.

Possible Risks and Complications

As with any surgical procedure, potential risks include:

Bleeding

Infection

Temporary sensory changes

Asymmetry

Prolonged swelling

These risks are minimized when the procedure is performed by an experienced Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon.
